Scotland Yard today sensationally named the third Russian spy charged with murder.

Agents identified the suspect as Sergei Fedotov and stated that he was a Russian citizen in his 50s who arrived at Heathrow on a flight from Moscow at 11 a.m. on March 2, two days before the attack.

Four hours later, two other Russian agents named Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov arrived in Gatwick on flights from the Russian capital.

Deputy Deputy Commissioner Dean Haydon said at the briefing: “As with Petrov and Boshirov, we believe Fedotov traveled under a pseudonym and stayed at a hotel in central London on Friday and Saturday nights.”

Fedotov reportedly met with two other men in the “open air” in central London before the attack.

Unlike the other two, no trace of a nerve agent was found at his hotel, and he did not travel to Salisbury, leading to speculation that he might be the unit commander.

He returned to Moscow on a flight from Heathrow on Sunday 4 March at 13:45. Petrov and Boshirov took off from the same airport at 22:30 that night.

In addition to revealing Fedotov’s presence in the UK, the investigation team also collected evidence that the three had previously worked with each other and on behalf of the Russian state in operations outside of Russia, ”Haydon said. , Senior National Coordinator, Counter Terrorism.

Investigators in Bulgaria

Haydon said the men’s real names were Alexander Mishkin and Anatoly Chepiga, while Fedotov’s real name was Denis Sergeev, and that all three were members of the GRU, Russian military intelligence.

According to them, this is the first time the police have apparently managed to link their suspects to a Russian spy agency. Agents also contact investigators in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic about reports that the men were there.

The Crown Attorney’s Office has brought charges against all three of conspiracy to murder, attempted murder, serious bodily harm and possession of chemical weapons.

Denis Sergeev and he is a member of the GRU, Russian military intelligence. The media presented photographs of Fedotov, in which he is depicted during the trip, as well as documents from CCTV cameras filmed when he arrived and left the country through Heathrow Airport.

Detectives are still trying to piece together what happened to the fake Nina Ricci perfume bottle with an adapted mouthpiece and box that was linked to Dawn Sturgess’s death in July 2018.

“We want to hear from anyone who might have information regarding the box of perfume in a bottle at that time,” Haydon said.

Haydon said Fedotov was identified early in the investigation, but the team did not have enough information to press charges. “From the very beginning of the investigation, there was a series of investigations, several people we investigated.

Attempted murder

There was a delay with the third person. We were able to identify the first two pretty quickly, but the third person took a little longer. “We have to follow proper procedures, and by that I mean an investigation.

The attack is believed to have been ordered by Russian intelligence in retaliation for Skripal’s work as an MI6 double agent in the 1990s. He was arrested in 2004 and moved to the UK six years later after a spy swap deal.

Sergeant Nick Bailey, one of the police officers who responded to the attack, also became seriously ill following the March 4, 2018 attack.

Four months later, Don Sturgess, a 44-year-old mother of three, died of a dose of nerve agent after her partner, Charlie Rowley, found a discarded bottle containing the nerve agent.

Despite circumstantial evidence, police have not yet been able to link Rowley’s find to the original attack, so the three Russian spies were charged only with attempting to kill Mr. Skripal, his daughter, and DC Bailey.

They are charged with conspiracy to murder Sergei Skripal, attempted murder of Sergei Skripal, Yulia Skripal and DK Bailey, as well as causing serious bodily harm to Yulia Skripal and DK Bailey.
